Attempted Murder: Court remands Chief Priest, 3 others in Prison Custody

Chief Priest Ohen Joseph Amadasun, Remanded in Prison Custody

An Ogbeson Magistrate Court sitting in Benin City, Tuesday remanded the Chief Priest (Ohen) of Ohovbe Community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State, Ohen Joseph Amadasun, 52, and three others in prison custody over an alleged murder attempt on one Yusuf Sule in Ohovbe Quarters, Benin City, Edo State.

In the charge numbered Megb/100/2018, the seven count charge bordering on attempted murder, unlawful shooting, breach of peace, threat to life and unlawful assault on one Anapi Saleh, which the prosecutor said is punishable under section 320, 516, 355, 517, 249, 86 and 27 of the Criminal Code.

“That you Eghe Imariagbe, Efosa Aimufua and others now at large on the 22nd day of December, 2017 at about 1900hrs at Ohovbe quarters, Benin City, Edo State in the Ogbeson magisterial  district did conspired amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: attempted murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516 of the criminal code Cap 48.

That you Joseph Amadasun and Osazee Edomwonyi on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did armed yourselves with a cutlass and threatened the life of one Chief Osa Amadasun in his residence and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 86 of the criminal code Cap 48, vol. 11 laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable in Edo State”. The counts read in parts.

The Chief Magistrate, His Worship T.O Omoruyi therefore remanded the accused persons to prison custody.

However, a mild drama ensued when count 4 and 5 charges were read to the accused persons, the counsel Kingsley O. Owie to the 3rd and 4th accused persons (Joseph Amadasun and Osazee Edomwonyi, respectively) argued that the charges had no bearing on his clients.

Having listened to the submission of their counsel, the trial Magistrate, T.O Omoruyi admonished Kingsley O. Owie to forward their complaints to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for advice.

Another drama ensured outside the court premises when the accused persons where being taken into a waiting vehicle to the prison as one of the accused persons started shouting that a certain person in the community allegedly sent him to commit the crime.

Investigations revealed that the accused person who was shouting allegedly pulled the trigger and the wife, a nursing mother was also wailing outside the court.
