A Delta State based computer expert, Mr Favour Enuji has exposed the underground activities of desperate politicians in collusion with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to clone the voters card of electorates for the purpose of rigging the 2019 general elections.
Speaking at his office in Agbor, Mr Enuji who is also a legal practitioner stated that from his findings, the intention of these unscrupulous elements was to manipulate the votes in a way that the real electorates whose cards had been cloned will be unable to be scanned by the card readers thereby disenfranchising them.
He stated that the trending of a phony website http://voterreg.inecnigeria.org by certain individuals and groups on various social media platforms was the mechanism employed by these elements.
In his words, “The digital fingerprint of the said website which is a sub-domain of the main INEC website is suggestive of a fraudulent intent. HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol.
“This means that the website is communicating to your browser using an unsecured language. In other words, it is possible for someone to digitally eavesdrop on your conversation with the website. Hence, if you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site. And this is the situation with the phony INEC website which requires a person to input his name, date of birth, local government and the voters identification number. These are all the information required to clone and remotely manipulate the voters card.
“That is why the website address does not begin with https://, in which case the website in a Secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.”
While chiding political parties for their inaction in the face of this obvious intrusion, he called on Nigerians to ignore any website such as the phony INEC website which is in an unsecured mode requesting for any sensitive Information.
He further stated that the phony website http://voterreg.inecnigeria.org has no link to other pages, no sitemap, no home, no about, no contact etc
“In the light of the controversy that trailed and is still trailing the US election of 2016 and the Kenyan election of 2017, that an important agency of the Federal Government like INEC which has a team of computer engineers could expose Nigeria’s democracy to the antics of hackers and to be silent in the face of this trending and disturbing development is to say the least, unfortunate. To us, this loud silence is more of treachery, a conspiracy and an active collusion with some elements to favour certain aspirants, a development which could torpedo Nigeria’s fledging democracy.”
